Cheeky Kookaburra at Seacove Resort

Monday, 20 October 2014 05:38

We have a cheeky kookaburra who has decided that Seacove Resort, Coolum Beach, Sunshine Coast is a great place to live. Over the last couple of weeks he has been visiting the balconies to see what is on offer for breakfast and has also been seen to be liberating a couple of sausages that were supposed to be a guests lunch.

He certainly likes a snack of mince balls over looking the pool area.

Spring is definitely here on the Sunshine Coast

Tuesday, 07 October 2014 02:26

There has been some fantastic weather here on the Sunshine Coast over the school holidays and it looks to be continuing for some time. The sun is raising just that bit earlier as we race towards summer. Just perfect to get down to the beach for an early morning swim before work.

Coffee at The Shop Coolum

Thursday, 11 September 2014 04:51

We went for an early morning swim last Saturday at Coolum Beach to celebrate the fact that Winter was over and Spring was with us. We have to admit that we were a bit optimistic as the ocean and wind still had a bit of a nip to it.

As luck would have it The Shop at Coolum Beach has just taken delivery of a new fangled coffee machine and are pushing out some great brews. The guys have scoured beans from Flying West Small Batch Roasters and these beans certainly helped produce a rich flavoured cup of java for us. Coolum Beach is gathering force in the independent coffee house stakes, which is great for those who want to get away and enjoy a local brew.

Tuesday, 02 September 2014 02:26

Spring has arrived at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, and we were there to enjoy the day. The water may have been a bit nippy at sunrise, but it certainly didn't stop Hunter and Robbie enjoying a dawn swim on the first day of Spring.

Stormy Weather on the Sunshine Coast

Wednesday, 13 August 2014 23:52

Normally when we see a forecast like this for the Sunshine Coast we feel a little down.

This is probably one of the best weather predictions that we could have for the weekend ahead. Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast is on and thunderstorms are on the horizon. Can you imagine the thrill of racing around the course as the heavens open up and throw all their fury at participants. There will be stories to be told after such a weekend.

Could it get any better?

Breaking Waves at Point Cartwright Sunshine Coast

Wednesday, 13 August 2014 02:11

Hunter and Robbie went for a wander around Point Cartwright Sunshine Coast the other day. They found some great rock pools brimming with little fish and crabs. Watching the waves roll in and smash against the ledge kept Hunter amazed at the power of the ocean for a spell. Apparently we are still experiencing winter.

Winters Day on Coolum Beach

Thursday, 31 July 2014 06:02

It has been another terrible day here at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast. The temperature was a chilly 22 degrees and there was this slight breeze that just ripped straight through a person. We are so glad that we only have one more month of this winter to go. It is these sort of days that make it really hard for Robbie to train for Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast.

Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast 2014

Tuesday, 29 July 2014 02:45

Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast 2014 is nearly here and Robbie and the team have been putting a bit of training in for the event. Last Sunday saw the lads take to Coolum Beach for a wander and a swim to blow out the cobwebs from last year. The lads did not undertake a great distance but there was the mandatory ocean swims, running /staggering up sand dunes and a few push ups thrown in to help everyone remember why they were down at the beach.

Modern technology is an amazing thing and with the aid of the iPhonethingitybob they were able to keep an accurate track of how far and how slow/fast they were. Having a water proof cover meant Robbie could even take the iPhonethingitybob into the surf. This waterproof feature will be good for the actual Tough Mudder event, Robbie might even try to take a couple of action shots at Tough Mudder.

Sunday Sunrise at Coolum Boardwalk Sunshine Coast

Monday, 14 July 2014 02:38

Whilst it was a bit nippy at Coolum Beach on Sunday morning, it didn't stop Robbie or Hunter going for an early walk. Watching the sun come up as we went along the Coolum boardwalk was breathtaking. Then it was back home for a well deserved hot chocolate and coffee to make plans for the rest of the day.

Kayaking at Coolum

Thursday, 10 July 2014 05:55

Hunter and I managed to get the kayak wet off Coolum Beach, Sunshine Coast yesterday. We started off from Stumers Creek and paddled south towards Point Perry.

The water was fairly clear and there was just a gentle breeze blowing, to remind us it was supposedly winter. We were hoping to catch sight of some whales as they pass by Coolum Beach as reported by Gaye from The Shop earlier in the day. We didn't have much luck with the whales but we did see a turtle as we paddled pass Point Perry.

It was an excellent afternoon out on the water, with Hunter already planning our next trip out into the deep blue.

alt

No whales unfortunately, but it was great to be out on the water on such a beautiful day

Sunrise Wander

Wednesday, 09 July 2014 22:36

It is another spectacular morning to wander down the Coolum Beach boardwalk on the Sunshine Coast. Every few steps we would cast our eyes towards the ocean to hopefully catch a glimpse of the whales as they migrate north to Fraser Island.

It looks like another perfect day to take the kids out for a paddle on the kayak.

Waves of Fun

Tuesday, 08 July 2014 23:23

It was such a beautiful sunrise at Coolum Beach yesterday, that we decided to take the kayak out for a paddle later in the day. The kids wanted to go for a paddle on the Maroochy River, so we loaded the kayak on the roof racks and headed off to Cotton Tree. The Maroochy River was fantastic and we paddled out to the river mouth and around the front of the Cotton Tree caravan park. The ocean was a spectacular clear blue colour and very calm, perfect for us on the kayak. We paddled down to the Maroochy surf club and then made or way back to the Maroochy River. It was on the way back that Hunter decided that he really needed to explore the large sand bags near the caravan park. We all had a lot of fun running along the tops of these bags and dodging the waves. As the wind and tide picked up it was time to jump back in the kayak and head back up the Maroochy River, for an early diner and bed. There is some magical property, that the sun and salt water have on our children's sleeping habits and they were tucked up and snoring away by 7-00pm.

We love these winter days on the Sunshine Coast.

Last Star Standing at Coolum Beach

Tuesday, 08 July 2014 01:24

It was certainly a winters morning at Coolum Beach this morning. The ocean was like a pond and there was hardly a cloud on the horizon. Spectacular colours were being created as the sun came up and if you look closely you can see one last star saying goodbye.

It will be a perfect day to take the kids out on the kayak a little later on.

Coolum Croquet Club

Friday, 04 July 2014 01:08

The Coolum Croquet Club has started work on their third playing field and it should be ready for the summer season. The other two fields are looking good for the winter games and today is no different. The Club keeps the playing fields in tip top condition and there is something very relaxing when you look over the fields from one of our studio apartment balconies.

It may not be an ocean view, but is certainly a great view to stare out onto and think about nothing for a few minutes.

Mount Coolum Sunrise

Tuesday, 17 June 2014 03:35

One of our favourite aspects of winter here on the Sunshine Coast, apart from being warm, is the beautiful clear sunrises that we experience.

There is something very invigorating about climbing to the top of Mount Coolum and watching the sunlight play off the clouds as it rises above the horizon. A strong coffee afterwards at either The Caf or Little Lane Espresso ends off the morning quite nicely.alt

A wander up Mount Coolum

Tuesday, 20 May 2014 04:48

There are many activities to do on the Sunshine Coast and a lot of these activities are free. One of our favourite things to do, is climb up Mount Coolum. This beautiful walk takes about 30 minutes from the bottom to the summit and QLD National Parks have installed a number of signs with fascinating facts concerning Mount Coolum, on the way up.

Our kids always enjoy getting to the top and having a snack as we watch the world go by. We have been fortunate one time, to watch the whales pass by on their annual migration from Fraser Island to cooler waters. That was certainly one for class discussion on the following Monday.

Being such a beautiful day on Sunday, we took off on a bit of a road trip to explore the Maleny Region on the Sunshine Coast.

We visited Gardners Falls and had a bit of a swim and lunch with friends. The kids had a ball, but we have to admit the water was a bit nippy.

alt

After a few hours there, we headed down to the iconic Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. The viewing area overlooks the Glasshouse Mountains, and being such a clear day we could even make out the skyline of Brisbane CBD. We could have sat there for hours in the sun enjoying the view, maybe next time.

How to wear an 8 year old boy out, perhaps.

Sunday, 13 April 2014 22:26

The last couple of days has seen a bit of rain falling on the Sunshine Coast, great for the plants and lawns. Sunday saw a break in the rain so we packed the backpack with some hot cross buns, a thermos of hot chocolate and set off for Mount Coolum.

I mistakenly thought that with this bit of rain, we would be the only ones climbing Mount Coolum, how wrong could I be. It seems that parents had the same idea as myself and were trying to wear the kids out with a trek up Mount Coolum.

alt

We managed to get to the top without getting wet and enjoyed the view with our hot chocolate and hot cross buns. We had a bit of an explore around the top of the mountain and Hunter managed to find the only mud puddle on top of Mount Coolum. There is something very therapeutic when you jump in a good mud puddle. Even on a rainy day there is always something to keep everyone entertained.

Next adventure is probably going to be out to the Aqua Fun park.

How to wear an 8 Year old boy out, day 6

Wednesday, 09 April 2014 23:38

It has been another fantastic start to the day here at Coolum Beach. Hunter was awake early and after a quick breakfast was fuelled up and ready for a surf.

The surf was coming in so nicely that Hunter and Robbie soon lost track of time.

After catching a string of great waves it was time to head home for a second breakfast for Hunter and a coffee for Robbie.

Robbie's cunning plan of wearing Hunter out is well on track, as Hunter has been falling asleep on the couch well before 7-30pm the last few nights.

Love it when a plan comes together.

How to wear an 8 year old boy out, maybe?

Monday, 07 April 2014 23:32

The 2014 April school holiday have started and Robbie's master plan of wearing Hunter out is well under way.

It is not a complicated plan and revolves around salt water, fresh air and early mornings.

Hunter has been keen to go for either an early morning surf or swim at Coolum Beach and thankfully the weather has been spectacular.

Day four of the holidays saw an early morning run along the water's edge and then a swim.

We may have to look at a trip up Mount Coolum one morning.

It certainly is a great time of the day to be Enjoying the Moment at Coolum Beach, Sunshine Coast.

Saturday Fun at Underwater World Sea Life

Monday, 31 March 2014 05:12

I am not sure how the weather was on the rest of the eastern seaboard last Saturday, but for those on the Sunshine Coast it went from sunshine, to rain and then back to sunshine.

We decided to pack up the kids and rediscover Underwater World Sea Life at Mooloolaba. We have not been down to visit, since the renovations in December 2013 and we are kicking ourselves that we took this long to revisit this iconic attraction.

There were all the old favourites with the clown fish, the seal show and of course that huge set of shark fangs.

alt

The new surrounds as you walk between the different exhibits are great. The Shark Shipwreck had Hunter amazed and his expression when the sting rays glided over him was excellent.

The new Jellyfish Kingdom was like a something out of a Hollywood movie. We were surrounded by these surreal creatures just floating like they were in outer space. Someone has given this display a bit of thought and added coloured down lights which made the jellyfish even more mysterious. I just wish my photographic skills were up to capturing their beauty but I am sure you get the general idea with this image.

alt

Before we knew it, we had lost three hours as we rediscovered and marvelled at this fantastic attraction right here on the Sunshine Coast.

I wonder what we will rediscover next weekend?

What to do on a rainy day?

Wednesday, 26 March 2014 23:10

It is shaping up to be a wet weekend ahead, there is no way to sugar coat the fact that the Sunshine Coast is going to be a bit wet.

However it does not mean that you have to become frustrated and bored over the weekend.

Our short list of staying sane over the weekend is by no means complete and hopefully if you are up this way, you will have a few ideas of your own to experience.

1. Enjoy a heated spa at Seacove Resort whilst listening to the raindrops splash into the pool.

alt

2. Visit Underwater World Sea Life at the Mooloolaba and discover amazing creatures that live in the oceans, such as the Weedy Sea-Dragon.

alt

3. It is going to be wet, so why not get even wetter and enjoy your self at the Aqua Funpark located at 60 Junction Drive Coolum.

alt

4. Turn off the television set, grab a good book and settle into your favourite chair on a wet Saturday afternoon (hot chocolate or wine are optional)

alt

5. It is perfect weather to do some Tough Mudder training. Grab some mates and run around in the mud and the rain, like you used to do when you were a kid. Best bit is, mum is not going to yell at you for getting dirty. After all you are an adult now.

alt

Most importantly, what ever you do this coming weekend, have fun.

Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast 2014

Wednesday, 26 March 2014 01:30

Guests to Seacove Resort may remember that Robbie and a few like-minded individuals formed a team to take part in the Sunshine Coast Tough Mudder event last year. The lads are at it again for 2014. The organisers for Tough Mudder have promised new obstacles to keep thing fresh, as well as retaining the crowd favourites that involved electricity and mud. If you want to take yourself out of your comfort zone for a few hours and meet some fantastic individuals, get involved with Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast 2014.

We will occasionally post updates so you can keep tabs on Robbie and his teams fitness regime.

Bear in mind that the lads have all agreed that training sessions must end at an establishment that serves icy cold ales and hot chips. What could possible go wrong with that plan?

As you can see, the lads were all quietly chuffed to have completed the Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast 2013 event.

Surfing Lessons at Coolum Beach

Monday, 24 March 2014 02:34

Sunday mornings for the last few weeks have been a busy time for us, as Hunter has been taking part in surfing lessons with Coolum Surfing School.

The weather has been spectacular of late and we have enjoyed a number of near perfect Sundays down at Coolum Beach. Hunter is displaying more balance and natural ability than his dad, and his smile is impossible to wipe off after a session at the beach.

alt

After a surfing lesson, a few more hours swimming in the pool back at the Resort, and then a BBQ lunch, we are all ready for an afternoon sleep.

You just have to love living on the Sunshine Coast.

Chris and the rest of the crew at Coolum Surfing School run lessons for groups and individuals all year long. Give them a call on 0438731503 to find out more.

Lunch - To Relax and Reflect Part 2

Friday, 21 March 2014 04:38

As we pondered and discussed the two previous taste sensations, Craig was just getting started. We were blown away by the Slow roasted pork belly with sauerkraut and apple parsley leaf salad.

alt

Next up was the Crispy Snapper which was served with a pea, baby zucchini, broad bean, mint, fetta and salsa agresto. Ashleigh, our wonderful waittress for the afternoon, ensured that our afternoon was very relaxed.

alt

They say that all good things must come to an end and our lunch did with a dessert that has been on the menu since Pitchfork first opened. Our last offering from Craig was the Passionfruit Roulade, with Turkish delight ice cream and Persian Fairy floss. Kim-Leigh is not a big fan of passionfruit or Turkish delight, but there was a clean plate in front of her at the end of the afternoon.

Thanks to Craig,Kim, Ashleigh and all the rest of the great staff at Pitchfork Restaurant for helping us to remember what lunch is suppose to be all about.

Lunch - To Relax and Reflect

Thursday, 20 March 2014 00:00

Kim-Leigh and I were fortunate to be invited to a Concierge Lunch at Pitchfork Restaurant, which just happened to coincide with my birthday. Years ago we were told that lunch was a time to take a break from the working day, as well as being there to feed the body. It is an opportunity to relax and reflect on what had pasted in the morning. It also allows you to prepare for the afternoon ahead. We certainly grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

We have been to Pitchfork Restaurant,a few times over the years and every time the menu has entertained and delighted us - this time was no different.

Craig the owner/chef put together the Concierge Lunch, to show off his incredible skills around a frying pan.

To start our lunch, we enjoyed a Amuse Bouche of Tuna with wakame and sesame seed oil, it was devine.alt

This was followed a delightful serving of Baked goats cheese, with a honey walnut truffle dressing and crispy toasts.

Visit our Blog tomorrow to see the final three courses that Craig tempted our taste buds with.

We are certainly enjoying this fantastic weather of late. The calendar tells us it is autumn, but it still feels like summer here at Seacove Resort Coolum Beach.

Our First Blog

Sunday, 16 March 2014 10:04

It may be a little wrong to say that Robbie and Kim-Leigh-Leigh have been dragged kicking and screaming into the technological age. They are embracing the change, just not as quick as some.

That said Robbie has a vague understanding of some aspects of social media and seems to like having a crack at things. The last few years have seen them dabbling with Facebook, Google+ and a few other sites. It has been a great learning curve and now they are ready to launch into a blog for Seacove Resort.

We know that it will be a great way to spread the news of what is happening in our favorite part of the world. It also gives Robbie the opportunity to fine tune his photographical skills with his iPhonethingitybob.

So hang on and keep an eye out for our future blogs.
